Springboard en Pilates

Looking for a way to strengthen your body, improve your posture, and work with resistance without needing a large piece of equipment? Then you need to discover the Springboard, a tool that brings the essence of classical Pilates... directly to your wall.

At Mindbody Pilates Studio, we use the Springboard to offer a complete, safe, and deeply effective experience. Today, we'll explain why this compact apparatus is a gem that many don't know about, but everyone should try.

What Is the Springboard?

The Springboard (or spring board) is a wooden panel fixed to the wall, equipped with a set of adjustable springs, straps, and a push-through bar. It was created by Ellie Herman, a Pilates instructor and former dancer, with the intention of making the benefits of the Cadillac available in a more accessible and space-saving format.

The essence? The same resistance offered by the Cadillac's springs, but in a vertical, compact, and highly versatile version.

What Is It Used For?

The Springboard allows for a wide variety of full-body exercises, with an emphasis on:

  • Core stability

  • Movement control

  • Strengthening of arms, legs, and back

  • Posture improvement

  • Spinal alignment and mobility

  • Coordination and lengthening

Additionally, it adapts well to all experience levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.

What Are Its Benefits?

Impact-free resistance: The springs work against your body without stressing your joints. Ideal for people in recovery or with sensitivity in wrists, knees, or spine.

Greater body awareness: Since exercises are often performed in direct contact with the wall, it allows you to better understand your alignment, symmetry, and core control.

Versatility in a small space: Perfect for small studios or home workouts. You don't need a Reformer bed or a Cadillac for a complete session.

Ideal complement for mat or reformer: It adds new challenges, angles, and variable resistance that enrich any Pilates practice.

Functional strengthening: Many exercises simulate natural movement patterns (like pushing, pulling, rotating, or stabilizing), which helps you move better in your daily life.

¿Qué tipo de ejercicios se hacen con la Springboard?

What Kind of Exercises Are Done with the Springboard?

Most exercises are performed standing, seated, or lying in front of the board, using the arm or leg springs. Some examples include:

  • Arm Series with springs: Arm and shoulder strength, and scapular stability.

  • Leg Series in supine: Core activation and leg strength.

  • Chest Expansion and Rowing: To open the chest and improve posture.

  • Roll Downs with tower bar: Spinal mobility and deep abdominal connection.

  • Standing Push or Pull series: Balance and control from feet to crown.

Furthermore, many exercises incorporate the push-through bar or the use of a mat in front of the Springboard for additional variety.

Is It For You?

Yes, absolutely. The Springboard is ideal if you:

  • Want to start Pilates with a safe and accessible option.

  • Are rehabilitating or recovering from an injury.

  • Are looking for a new, low-impact challenge in your practice.

  • Don't have space at home for large apparatus.

  • Already train with mat or reformer and want to expand your repertoire.
